1. Rent text books or buy them used. Under no circumstances pay full price at the university book store
2. Don’t eat out. Cook, eat leftovers, or make ramen.
3. Return can and bottles for the full deposit. You can really pocket some decent change doing this.
4. Become a tutor for undergraduate students in your subject.
5. Become a teachers assistant.
6. Become a research assistant.
7. Get a part time job at a local business.
8. Start your own at home business, like a website for example.
9. Shop for clothes at Goodwill. You can actually find some pretty solid stuff.
10. Walk or ride a bike to class instead of driving.

One of my all time favorite science and discovery shows is NOVA, so I was ecstatic to find the archives online at PBS.org. You can watch the latest episodes or browse older ones based on interests and categories.

TeacherTube

This site is, you guessed it, the YouTube specifically for teachers. In their own words: “Our goal is to provide an online community for sharing instructional videos. We seek to fill a need for a more educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. As well, it is a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view in order to learn a concept or skill.”

BrainPop

A very cool animate stie, the content of BrainPop is ideal for both group and one-on-one settings. The educational content can be used in numerous ways, from introducing a new lesson or topic to illustrating complex subject matter to reviewing before a test.

National Geographic

Another of our oldest traditional media favorites, National Geographic has created a great website for us to explore the wonders of the natural world.

Archive.org

Amazing for it’s sheer scope, the Archive.org video collection indexes thousands of video clips on a vast variety of subjects. If you can’t find what you’re look for on this site, there’s a good chance it doesn’t exist.

BigThink

Big Think is created to spread great ideas. It contains thousands interviews with innovators and intellectuals from around the worlds.

Academic Earth

This site is a huge collection of the very best lecture from world famous university like Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. It’s like getting and Ivy League education for free!

ABC Documentaries

If you’re a documentary nut like me then this site is a gold mine. Tons of great films and TV series on a wide variety of subjects.

Edge.org

This site is run by John Brockman, literary agent to some of the most important science writers in the US and beyond. You’ll find videos featuring these thinkers on the Edge’s web site.
